Yakety Taps

Hats & Taps took July off for their annual break.  The group always looks forward to getting back together and shaking the dust off those tap shoes.  Yakety taps soon turned into Yakety Sax, Side by Side and Personality. Our second set; Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Star Spangled Spectacular and Tribute to the Armed Forces, were performed on August 21, 2013, at Windsor El Camino Center.

Hats & Taps has Personality!

Easter Seal Gala

June 28th Hats & Taps danced 2 patriotic numbers for the Easter Seals Gala.  It was Galalightful! What an enormous and lively crowd!  This audience can whoop and holler and make us feel like real celebrities!  Another super hot day did not deter the joy and fun this group was having.  And we were infected.  Alas, Mary was away for Anchors Aweigh and we lacked a camera.   Thanks to Mary, however, we have a picture of our costume for that day.
Mary helps Carol, and the rest of the group, with her Made-Up-For-Tap Mannequin.  She takes a picture and sends it to all of us so we have a wonderful visual of what we need for upcoming shows.

Pen Pals at Eskaton

Liz, second on the left, arranged for Hats & Taps to perform for Pen Pals at Eskaton Monroe Lodge. It was a hot day for June 8th but we are always supplied with a very nice spot to change and get ready.
Rhoda, Linda 1, Marie and Carolyn in the front row.
Mary, Carol, Liz and Lois in the back row shown here.
Carol's patriotic numbers are always a hit,
especially as we near July 4th.
Thank you Eskaton and Pen Pals.  We enjoyed celebrating with you!

Tri-Annual Birthdays

Our Tri-annual birthday gig celebrated Mary, Carolyn,
Linda 2, and Liz - in descending height order.
Ettore's back room always accommodates us well.
June 6th was our celebration day.
It's amazing how we can give each other fun cards and hardly ever repeat them!

Rhoda & Lois
Carol 2 was able to join us, here with Liz & Marie.
We miss her and were very glad to catch up!

May Day at Carlton Plaza

May Day, May Day, down four and boy did we miss them!  Six out of ten Hats & Taps danced for Carlton Plaza on the first of May.  Filling windows and finding your proper place when some of us are gone is indeed a challenge.  We make the most of it, however, and hope our audiences enjoy our foibles as much as we do. Smiles and laughter -
the key to happy feet.
 ..........And audiences.
Thank you, Carlton Plaza, for being one of our regular requesters.
Ruthie always makes sure the audience is having a good time.
Looks like she is too!

Courtyard Terrace

Back to back shows found Hats & Taps at Courtyard Terrace Memory Group on April 24th.
We enjoy our sparkling outfits and are pleased when the audience does as well!
Love those spats that Linda 2 made!
Finishing the show with New York, New York, always is a hit!
Thank you Courtyard Terrace!  We had fun.

Easter Seals Too

On April23, Hats & Taps performed at another Easter Seals location and loved it too!  The introduction and greeting we received from one of the audience members (and all the audience) was super endearing. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the sound of that wood floor.

For those who have not been on the stage side of entertaining, they might not realize how much detail goes into every performance.  First of all, our teacher Carol makes sure she brings the music equipment, sets it up and tests it in advance.  Carol lets Ruthie, our entertainer plus, know the speed and other details of every song so our feet are free to concentrate.
Then there are the costumes and all the accessories.  Times ten.  We are Hats & Taps after all and believe we can't have enough hats. In our excited-to-perform states, we try hard to keep our various items close to us. Clues and identifying marks help us keep track of our many pieces. Here is an example we thought quite cute.  You can see who it belongs to.  Our favorite Drill Sergeant.

Thanks again Easter Seals! We enjoyed being with you!
